Joe Ziegler is a one man militia.  Besides sharing initials with hip-hop royalty (think about it), Ziegler is constantly treading new ground on a never-ending tour cycle through America.  The enigmatic traveler is also affectionately known as Leftmore, the acoustic wordsmith that crafts enticing lyrical prose over the most melodic and catchy of strumming.  For a second you’d swear you were listening to radio pop, until you realize the words are oh so much more.

Leftmore began as a duo, including Ziegler’s musical confidente, Matthew Shaw.  What began as a team effort, however, has dwindled down to a solo mission, as Shaw left amicably to pursue other endeavors.  Joe soldiers on and Leftmore continues to pick up steam and grow in the underground network of local musicians across the country.

I was able to catch Joe, sans underpants, in an off-moment when he was watching curling . . . the second greatest thing that Canada has graced sports with.

Mike Mo talks about his life skating with his brother Vince and how a nasty incident on a handrail changed his skating habits forever.  Apparently, all you need to do to skate like Mike Mo is have excessive OCD and break your wrist on a handrail. [FuelTV]

Why, oh why, does a great pop band like Passion Pit continue to put out horrible videos?  Not once, but twice, the indie-poppers have put out a video for “Little Secrets”, and on both attempts have achieved a video that looks like it should be from the 90’s. I had just always assumed that the visual interpretations of such songs would be a bit more psychedelic and not so cliche. Dance-hall in the back of a grocery store and tons of up-close, live shots? Oh, well . . . just enjoy the sounds, I suppose.

In March, the White Stripes’ incredible boxset will be released in support of Under Great White Northern Lights, the band’s documentary of a whirlwind tour through Canada.

Amidst all of the boxset’s contents is a DVD of the White Stripes’ 10th anniversary show.  Under Nova Scotian Lights, like other Jack White productions, is about as raw as you can get on hi-def film.  The band recently released a preview of “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”, featured below.  The countdown to March is on.

Released over three months ago by Merge Records, the video for “Walls” is as entrancing as the single.  The Shout Out Louds converged on Seattle, fresh off of a six-month hiatus, and built a rural barn into a musical temple.  The video for “Walls” shows their new sanctuary.

The Shout Out Louds are really rolling out the marketing tools in support of this February’s Work.  After receiving an advance copy of Work, “Walls” was undoubtedly the single and stand-out track.  “Fall Hard” is an interesting song in the mix . . . a bit mellow and more vocal cadence than most Shout Out Louds work.

The video for “Fall Hard” finds the band backstage before a late-night, european talk show, waiting to perform in the murky smoke of the show’s host
