She & Him dazzle Letterman

Zooey Deschanel and M Ward have been hitting the promotional circuit hard in support of Volume 2. The duo played Letterman on Friday and put on a jazzed-up, cabaret-sounding rendition of “In The Sun” that is just so damn retro and funky that it’s beautiful. Zooey looked a little stiff at first but then warmed into her role as the songstress with the limelight.

Sights: Them Crooked Vultures on SNL

With a rather late showing of support for their self-titled, 2009 release, Them Crooked Vultures graced the SNL state this past Saturday. Could a few lackluster performances pull their “aging supergroup” status out of the gutter (at least in my mind)? We’ll see.

I’ve always been a Josh Homme listener, a Dave Grohl fanatic and a Led Zeppelin lover. Something about mixing these three stoner rock tones into a 2010 band just doesn’t sit right . . . like it should be headed straight for the classic rock section. Josh Homme might have just doubled his productivity by hiring two guys instead of four to make the same sound as he does with Queens of the Stone Age.

Perhaps the second of the two singles pulls it out of the dust a little bit . . . but I can still picture these guys hanging out with Ashton Kutcher at an after-show frat cast party.

Sights: Spoon on Conan

Amidst making the rounds for Transferrence, Spoon stopped by Conan on Jan 19th to drop off a performance of the blog-busting, “Written in Reverse”. This song has been lighting up blogs for the past 3 months and continues to gain steam. It is, perhaps, the best song off of Transferrence. Enjoy.
