I first saw Bad Rabbits open for Foxy Shazam and their energy absolutely blew the audience away and had everyone steady-groovin’ by the end of their set. The Boston band brings a very refreshing high energy style of music with it. The “New Crack Swing” genre gives you a vibe of late 80s/ early 90s dance music mixed with some hard hitting funk/soul vocals and their live show is very in your face, with all the members dancing around and creating an interactive experience for the audience. If you’re looking to have a good time and get down then you need to for sure see Bad Rabbits on their next tour, hopefully as a headliner.

Their seven song EP, “Stick Up Kids”, is free for download on their website and is a must have. Throw it on your iPod or burn it on a CD and blast it in your car and prepare to have the songs stuck in your head for a couple days.

Electro: Danger

Now I am generally not a huge fan of the genre, however in regards to this particular artist I am in awe of his talent. World meet Danger, a French electro artist who creates the most awesome, in my opinion, 16 bit teasers for his EP releases (if you are aware of him, forgive me for I know I am behind the times). Here is a taste for all you loyal trendrobots.

Against Me! strikes back with “Rapid Decompression”

Against Me!’s last album was a major label crossover that almost left the band in shambles. With half of their cult fan-base alienated as Tom Gabel walked his tour bus on MTV, original drummer Warren left the band permanently to pursue personal interests. The interesting part was that New Wave wasn’t even a departure for Florida’s finest anarchists. It had every bit of muscle, grit, and literate spit that its predecessors had.

Now, Against Me! follows up their major label attempt with 2010′s White Crosses. I’ve got to admit that the cover art for White Crosses set me aback a little bit . . . reminding me more of a Skid Row LP than a punk rock statement. Nonetheless, the video for “Rapid Decompression” follows the black-and-white formula that has kept the band’s context as something more than a glitzed-up, punk trend.

I Was a Teenage Anarchist EP will be released 4/20, and White Crosses will be released 6/08. The following White Crosses tour hits Colorado Springs (The Black Sheep) on 5/06

She & Him dazzle Letterman

Zooey Deschanel and M Ward have been hitting the promotional circuit hard in support of Volume 2. The duo played Letterman on Friday and put on a jazzed-up, cabaret-sounding rendition of “In The Sun” that is just so damn retro and funky that it’s beautiful. Zooey looked a little stiff at first but then warmed into her role as the songstress with the limelight.

Two Door Cinema Club – “Something Good Can Work”

We’ve already raved about Two Door Cinema Club, the Irish trio with the drum machine backing. Besides rocking Gravis and being some music/skate junkies, these guys make some white-boy club-stomping music that’s akin to labelmates Phoenix. The video and singles from Tourist History are great and the band will undoubtedly be this year’s darkhorse, just as Phoenix was last year.

[Music Video] Titus Andronicus – “A More Perfect Union”

The title track off of The Monitor, the Titus Andronicus’ romping ode to the Civil War gets a visual collage of epic proportions (despite being a sufficient radio edit). “A More Perfect Union” normally spans about 7:10, but is cut to a more manageable length here without taking the main concept away.

The video mashes together the Civil War sentiment with the roughshed modern feel that Titus Andronicus mixes with every track on The Monitor. A less violent romp through the southern woods leaves the band victorious once again.

[Band to Watch] Yet another tasty little gem from the U.K.: The Joy Formidable

These days I find very few bands that have but a few songs available, yet I find myself obsessively sifting through the infinite web known as the internet to find just another song for my listening pleasure much like a junkie trying to get another fix of their preferred poison. The Joy Formidable is my newest obsession. Only having a few songs released adds the the draw of this particular band. As if to say here is a taste of our music, but only a taste, this band has officially and effectively hooked me on their sound. This album has been on perpetual repeat on my computer for the past week and I see no foreseeable end in the near or distant future. As always I am drawn to catchy guitar riffs, rhythmic drumming, and charming vocals that never seem to bear a presence in mainstream Stateside music. The indie rock group known as The Joy Formidable bears all of these qualities and then some. Ritzy’s vocals not to mention her looks immediately drew me in, while the guitar held my attention, and then the drums finished me off and here I am now with The Joy Formidable quickly becoming a staple in my playlist.

The Joy Formidable hales from North Wales but currently resides in good ol’ London England. The bands members came together in 2007 combining the individual talents of Ritzy Bryan performing vocals and guitar, Rhydian Dafydd with additional vocals and bass, and Matt Thomas on the drums. Ritzy and Rhydian were originally in a new wave/post-punk band called Sidecar Kisses who are equally as addictive as The Joy Formidable. Combine the insistent, grungy sound coming from the bass and guitar, the rhythmic, heavy pounding of the drums, and a unique, soothing vocalist, the trio has struck up a unique balance between vociferous instrumentals and crystal clear soothing vocals. The result is an aural pandemonium that immediately stands out in an endless search for newer and better music.

Their first album of sorts to be released by the group goes by the name of A Balloon Called Moaning which was self released on February 2 of 2009. The 8 track album contains a smattering of variously paced songs which seems to me more like a demonstration of what this band is exactly capable of and I personally cannot wait for their full length album to drop sometime in 2010. If bands such as The Maccabees or Bombay Bicycle Club are currently in your playlist then The Joy Formidable should be right up your alley faithful reader, I dare you not to like if not love them.

[Music Video] She & Him: “In The Sun”

She & Him seem to have everything set for the release of their upcoming Volume 2. From what I can tell, everything from 2 sounds like progress from Volume 1‘s own, unique blend of retro soul and country-crooning. Zooey’s eyes are as blue as ever and M Ward has added quite a bit of texture and depth to every bit of the album’s first singles.

As she did with Volume 1‘s “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here“, Zooey has put together a fun, playful little music video for the duo’s latest single, “In The Sun”. Blue eyes, hula hoops, cute girls in plaid skirts . . . it sounds like a re-telling of everyone’s fond-yet-awkward memories of freshman year of high school.

[music video] The Black Belles – “What Can I Do?”

Jack White’s Third Man Records has some seriously dark, bluesy characters lurking in its roster. The Black Belles are a collection of tough looking dames playing some serious garage rock, that, I’m sure, makes Jack proud.

I really love the sound of this new single as the noir video rolls along like an Alfred Hitchcock-esque mind bender. The ladies definitely understand that simplicity of their chosen instruments and weave them together behind the sultry lead vocals.

Sounding like a toned-down Kills song, it’s really an infectious beat with very little filler that puts the vocals at center stage. Center-cut, this could be the next club stomper.
