Whiskey or Vodka? Cymbals Eat Guitars to play Hi-Dive on April 1st

Is it an April Fool’s joke? If it is, it’s a cruel one.

I’m not quite sure what to make of Cymbals Eat Guitars yet. Their 2009 LP, Why There Are Mountains earned acclaim from Pitchfork, as well as spite for their horrible cover art.  From the sounds of the music, I don’t think they really care either way.  In fact, I don’t really think they care about much, as they went against all hipster codes of conduct and did a downright stellar cover of an Elliot Smith song.

From what I’ve heard, the songs are a hazy, blurry look through a Coke bottle at punk rock and atmospheric rock.  Whatever you want to call it . . . it’s disturbingly catchy when choruses and bridges break out of the chaos.

Cymbals Eat Guitars will be playing Denver’s Hi-Dive on April 1st. I’m not sure whether to drink rock n roll whiskey or trendy vodka that night, but it should be an interesting show.  More info as it comes along.
